The Catalan government, through the Catalan Land Institute (Incasòl), has approved the purchase of 1,094 homes, 1,014 parking spaces, and 239 storage rooms from InmoCaixa. The properties are located in 14 different Catalan municipalities and were acquired for €90 million, according to Europa Press Barcelona.
This administrative step expands on an earlier acquisition of 1,064 homes announced by Incasòl in late 2025. The Ministry of Territory, Housing and Ecological Transition confirmed the details in a statement on Friday.
Territory Minister Sílvia Paneque emphasised that such acquisitions offer a quick way to increase the public housing supply. She stated that this purchase "is a new step towards achieving the Pla 50.000," a plan to create 50,000 public housing units.
Expanding Public Housing Across Catalonia
The newly acquired homes are distributed across several key areas. This includes 186 flats in Barcelona, 112 in L'Hospitalet de Llobregat, and 84 in Cornellà de Llobregat. Other significant purchases include 120 units in Sant Just Desvern, 111 in Sentmenat, and 192 in Sitges, all within the Barcelona province.
The agreement was finalised during an Incasòl Board of Directors meeting. The meeting also introduced new independent board members: Marc Riera, an architect and president of the Girona province chapter of the College of Architects of Catalonia (COAC), and Maria Rubert, an architect and professor of urban planning at the Polytechnic University of Catalonia.
