Tarragona traffic was disrupted on Saturday afternoon after a heavy crane caught fire on the T-11 at kilometre 13, in the direction of Reus. The blaze sent up a large column of black smoke and led to lane closures and queues of about one kilometre.

Emergency services received the alert at 13:16. Five crews from the Generalitat Fire Service, Bombers de la Generalitat, were sent to the scene to put out the fire. Officials said the vehicle was completely engulfed, but there were no injuries.

The fire service also worked to stop the flames from spreading to nearby vegetation along the roadside. At first, one lane was closed, then two lanes were shut, leaving only one lane open for traffic heading towards Reus while crews carried out safety work.

In a post on X, Bombers de la Generalitat said they were dealing with a fire involving a heavy crane on the T-11 in the Gavarres area. They added that the vehicle was burning completely, that no people were affected, and that they were working to prevent the fire from reaching verge vegetation.

Authorities have not said what caused the fire. For ongoing local coverage, see our news page and the Bombers de la Generalitat website for official updates.
