Two women under observation for hantavirus in Barcelona and Alicante have again tested negative for the virus, according to health officials. If their condition remains favourable and another PCR test is negative, both women could continue their quarantine at home next Saturday, 28 days after their exposure on 25 April.
The 32-year-old patient at Sant Joan Hospital in Alicante has received a fourth consecutive negative PCR test result for hantavirus, the Department of Health reported. She will remain hospitalised for now, following protocol, but is expected to receive visits from immediate family members starting tomorrow, with protective measures and restricted hours.
The Alicante hospital has implemented a specific protocol with "exhaustive and concrete" safety measures. These allow controlled visits using personal protective equipment (PPE), in line with Ministry of Health guidelines.
Barcelona Patient Also Negative
In Barcelona, a person under observation in the isolation unit at Hospital Clínic, after being identified as a contact from an international flight, also tested negative in a second PCR. This individual remains asymptomatic and in good general health.
Despite the negative results, health authorities are maintaining preventive monitoring and hospital confinement. This follows epidemiological surveillance protocols, with healthcare and public health systems still active and coordinated nationally.
