Girona has marked the end of the 13th Read, Camera, Action! workshop, with awards handed out on 9 June to students from three local institutes for their book trailers. The city-run initiative brought together 306 secondary school students and linked reading with audiovisual creation.
The programme is part of Girona City Council’s Educational Resources Programme and is run by the educational services of the Cinema Museum and Girona Libraries, with support from OCINE cinemas. Students from Institut Montilivi, Institut Ermessenda de Girona and Escola Maristes de Girona submitted 22 audiovisual projects.
Over the academic year, the students read selected books and, with guidance from an expert facilitator, produced trailers based on them. The best projects, chosen by the schools, were screened at OCINE cinemas in Girona during the closing ceremony. For more on local education coverage, see news.
Quim Ayats, Deputy Mayor and Councillor for Culture, said projects like this promote reading through audiovisual creation and new ways of looking at stories, encouraging young people to keep reading and to find new narratives.
The top prize for Best Book Trailer in the 2026 edition went to Ciutats de fum, by Joana Marcús, created by a group from Institut Ermessenda de Girona. Second prize for Best Production went to Asesinato para principiantes, by Holly Jackson, produced by students from Maristes Girona, while third prize for Best Direction went to La Patrona, a Roald Dahl story adapted by students from Institut Montilivi.
Special mentions went to Parker, el cazador by Richard Stark for Best Realisation, Invisible by Eloy Moreno for Best Adaptation, La subida al cielo by Roald Dahl for Best Artistic Direction, El llibre de l’hivern by Francesc Miralles for Best Editing, and Ataque de los titanes by Maristes Girona for Best Special Effects. All winning groups received a diploma, plus discounts and free tickets for OCINE cinemas, and the overall winning group will also visit TV Girona studios to talk about adapting a book for screen and recommending it to others.
