Girona province has placed three sommeliers in Spain’s Top 100 list, underlining the strength of Catalonia’s wine service scene. The names on the ranking are Matthew Wheeler of Gammarus restaurant and beach club in Lloret de Mar, Laura Tejero Oliu of Divinum in Girona, and Cyril Vermeulen of El Celler de Can Roca, also in Girona.
Wheeler was ranked 26th, while Tejero Oliu placed 46th. Vermeulen appeared in the 51 to 100 group and was also included in the Top 5 “one to watch” category for promising sommeliers.
All three were also on the previous year’s list, which points to a run of consistent recognition for Girona’s hospitality sector. The result adds to the area’s profile for wine knowledge and service across restaurants in the province.
