Girona FC has completed the permanent transfer of Colombian midfielder Jhon Solís to Birmingham City, according to club officials. The deal, valued at around €7 million, sees Solís move to the English club after a successful loan spell in the second half of the season.

Solís, who played 18 matches and scored one goal for Birmingham, impressed the English side enough for them to make the move permanent. This sale represents a notable income for Girona, especially considering the club's recent relegation.

Financial Details of the Transfer

The €7 million transfer fee will not entirely go into Girona's coffers. When Girona signed Solís from Atlético Nacional in the summer of 2022, the contract included a clause stipulating that 20% of any future sale would go to his former club. This means Atlético Nacional will receive approximately €1.4 million from the deal.

Furthermore, Girona has included a similar clause in the agreement with Birmingham City. Should Birmingham sell Solís to another club in the future, Girona will be entitled to 20% of that subsequent transfer fee. This arrangement could provide ongoing financial benefits for the Catalan club.

Club Activity at Montilivi

News from Montilivi, Girona's home ground, has been sparse since the end of the season and the club's relegation. The only major announcements have been the departure of coach Míchel, the release of season ticket prices, and the confirmation of Ukrainian forward Oleksander Pyschur's signing, which was agreed in January.

This week was expected to be important for squad planning, particularly regarding the appointment of a new coach. However, fans will need to wait a few more days for further news on that front. The sale of Solís is the most concrete development in recent days, providing some clarity amidst the quiet period.
