Girona FC manager Míchel Sánchez Muñoz has stated his team is "prepared to suffer" in their fight to remain in La Liga, ahead of a critical match against Rayo Vallecano in Madrid tomorrow. The Catalan club currently sits just one point above the relegation zone, making every remaining fixture a final, according to Míchel.
The team lost their previous 'final' against Mallorca last weekend. However, they still remain outside the bottom three as they head to Vallecas. Míchel confirmed that striker Abel Ruiz returns to the squad for the upcoming game.
Preparing for the Pressure
Míchel told reporters this morning that the dressing room is not only ready to endure hardship but also "capable" of "fighting for victory in the four remaining matchdays." He revealed that during their extended training week, the team discussed the possibility of starting tomorrow's match already in the relegation zone. "We were prepared to do so," he said, adding that "there are ten teams in the same situation, and perhaps only Rayo and Osasuna are more or less calm."
Regarding their opponents, Míchel believes Rayo Vallecano is not yet secure from relegation and also needs a win to guarantee their safety. "My friends and the fans want Girona and Rayo to stay in the Primera Division, but they need to win, just like us," he explained. The outcome of this match could significantly impact both teams' chances of avoiding the drop as the season nears its conclusion.
