Girona City Council has given initial approval to new parking regulations, a move that would change how street parking is managed across the city. The decision was taken on Monday afternoon, 8 June 2026.
The changes focus on the rules for public parking and regulated street parking. City officials say the aim is to favour residents and increase vehicle turnover in commercial areas.
Under the plan, Girona would have more green zones for residents, blue zones for short stays, and a new orange zone. The proposal would also reduce the amount of free parking available in the city.
The council says the new system is intended to make it easier for residents to park near home, while keeping spaces available for shoppers in commercial districts. That, in turn, is meant to support local business activity.
This was only an initial approval, so the regulations are not yet in force. Further steps are still needed before the green, blue and orange zones can be rolled out.
