A pilot programme involving German rowers has started in the Terres de l'Ebre, aiming to establish a regular nautical tourism model for the German market. The initiative, which began this Friday, sees rowers complete a route from the Ebre River to the port of La Ràpita.

The programme's goal is to attract active tourists who value sustainability and high-quality facilities and services, encouraging them to visit the wider territory. These visitors will then act as ambassadors in their home country, helping to internationalise the region, according to officials. La Ràpita's port will serve as the base for rowing teams, with the Alfacs Bay and the Ebre River providing the activity areas.

On Thursday, the German rowers tested a modern, sustainable, collapsible boat owned by the Institute for the Development of the Ebre Regions (IDECE). This vessel is designed to make navigation easier along the Ebre River. The pilot is organised into four descent stages between the Ebre River and the Alfacs Bay, passing through Ascó, Benifallet, Tortosa, Gola de Migjorn, and La Ràpita. The Tortosa Rowing Club is managing the logistics for the German mixed rowing team's four stages.

Rowing Route Details

The mixed team of 10 German rowers has a schedule for their stages: Ascó to Benifallet on 1 May, Benifallet to Tortosa on 2 May, Tortosa to Gola de Migjorn on 3 May, and from there to the port of La Ràpita on the final day, 4 May.

This new tourism product emerged from contacts between Delta Ebre Port and the German Rowing Federation at the Boot Düsseldorf fair in January 2025. Following this meeting, a reconnaissance trip to the region was organised in late March 2025. This action helped define a tourism proposal now being promoted in the German market and which is now a reality in the Terres de l'Ebre.

Promoting the Region

The promotional effort is led by the Delta Ebre Port group, which includes Ports de la Generalitat, La Ràpita City Council, the Tarragona Provincial Council's Tourism Board in the Terres de l'Ebre, and the Tortosa Chamber of Commerce. The reconnaissance trip also had the support of the Catalan Tourism Agency, IDECE, and the Tortosa Rowing Club.
