A German mixed rowing team of 10 members started a four-day pilot route on Friday, travelling from the Ebre river to the port of La Ràpita in Terres de l'Ebre. This initiative aims to launch a regular nautical tourism model for the German market, encouraging rowers to undertake temporary stays in the region.
The project seeks to attract active tourists who value sustainability, high-quality facilities, and local services, while also exploring the area. These visitors are expected to become advocates for the region in Germany, helping to boost its international profile.
On Thursday, the German rowers tested a modern, sustainable, collapsible boat owned by the Institute for the Development of the Ebre Regions (IDECE), designed to make river navigation easier. The route includes four stages, descending between the Ebre river and the Alfacs bay, passing through Ascó, Benifallet, Tortosa, Gola de Migjorn, and La Ràpita. The Tortosa Rowing Club is managing the logistics for the German team's journey.
Developing the Tourism Product
This new tourism product emerged from discussions between Delta Ebre Port and the German Rowing Federation at the Boot Düsseldorf trade fair in January 2025. Following this meeting, a scouting trip to the region was organised in late March 2025. This trip helped define the tourism proposal, which is now being promoted in the German tourism market and has become a reality in Terres de l'Ebre this week.
Delta Ebre Port leads the promotional efforts. This group includes Ports de la Generalitat, La Ràpita Town Council, the Tarragona Provincial Council's Tourism Board for Terres de l'Ebre, and the Tortosa Chamber of Commerce. The Catalan Tourist Agency, IDECE, and the Tortosa Rowing Club also collaborated on the initial scouting trip.
