In Catalonia, the Generalitat will process 197,516 general grant applications for the 2026-2027 academic year, covering students whose family home is in the region. The move marks the first time the Catalan government has fully managed these grants.
The Ministry of Education and Vocational Training will handle 109,669 applications for non-university studies, including Baccalaureate, Vocational Training and other post-compulsory studies. The Ministry of Research and Universities will manage 87,847 applications for university degrees and master's programmes, according to a government statement released on Sunday.
The Generalitat said the full transfer of grant management from the central Spanish government means the process is now handled entirely in Catalonia for students with a family home in the region. For background on related coverage, see news.
Both departments have recently run an information campaign to make the new application procedure clear to students and families. The government will now assess the applications to check whether they meet the academic and economic criteria used to decide eligibility and the amount of aid.
