The Fundació Catalunya La Pedrera in Manresa is running a solidarity campaign this September to raise funds for La Marató, the annual telethon supporting research into neurodegenerative and neuromuscular diseases. The initiative coincides with World Alzheimer's Month and aims to raise awareness among participants and their families.
Currently, 67 people are enrolled in the Memory Reinforcement Programme at Espai Manresa, where the foundation supports older adults with mild to moderate cognitive decline, including those affected by Alzheimer's and other dementias. The programme focuses on maintaining participants' cognitive abilities, emotional wellbeing and independence, while also offering guidance and support to their families.
The fundraising effort includes a solidarity basket collection, engaging both participants and the local community. These contributions will support La Marató de 3Cat 2026, which will take place on Sunday 13 December. The 35th edition of the event will focus on neurodegenerative and neuromuscular conditions such as Alzheimer's, Parkinson's and multiple sclerosis, with proceeds funding scientific research and caregiver support.
How to get involved
Members of the public can support La Marató by donating through the official website hosted by the Generalitat de Catalunya. Volunteers are also encouraged to register via the Generalitat’s volunteering portal to assist with local fundraising activities ahead of the broadcast.
The Memory Reinforcement Programme helps people live with dignity and purpose, while also educating families about the challenges of cognitive decline.
Further information about the programme and the foundation's activities is available through Espai Manresa and the Fundació Catalunya La Pedrera.
