Fire crews in Girona are tackling a blaze at a waste treatment centre in Pedret i Marzà, after the fire started on Wednesday evening, 3 June 2026.

The Generalitat fire service said it received the alert at 18:58. In a post on its X account, it said crews were focusing on the right flank of the fire, using a defensive strategy and heavy machinery to control the flames.

Nine fire crews are at the scene. The fire involves a pile of waste material at the facility, which makes the response more difficult.

Smoke and glow from the fire were visible from several nearby municipalities in Alt Empordà, including Siurana and Peralada, according to local reports.

Waste treatment centres handle combustible material, so fires at these sites can be hard to extinguish. The fire service is working to stop the blaze spreading beyond the waste pile and into other parts of the plant.
