Fira de Barcelona, along with the Generalitat, Fira 2000, BBVA, Banc Sabadell, CaixaBank, Santander, and the Catalan Institute of Finance (ICF), finalised a syndicated loan of up to €220 million on Thursday. This funding will support part of the expansion of Fira de Barcelona's exhibition venues.

The operation, backed by the Catalan administration, will finance the first phase of renovation works at the Montjuïc site, allocating up to €125 million. Another €95 million will go towards completing Hall Zero at the Gran Via venue. The loan has a maximum interest rate set according to the "principle of prudence" established by the Ministry of Economy, with a repayment period of 20 years, including a four-year grace period.

The agreement outlines the financial contributions and investment schedule for all partners. The Catalan government, as the majority partner, will contribute €75.04 million. Barcelona City Council will provide €33.65 million, while L'Hospitalet City Council, the Barcelona Metropolitan Area (AMB), and the Provincial Council will each contribute €10.41 million. These contributions total €139.92 million over four years.

Funding Major Renovation Projects

The overall project is expected to cost €615 million. Specifically, the construction of Hall Zero at the Gran Via exhibition centre represents an investment of €365 million. The first phase of the Montjuïc remodelling will cost €250 million.

This Montjuïc work includes the renovation of the Alfons XIII Pavilion and the construction of a new multi-purpose pavilion. These projects are scheduled for completion to coincide with the centenary celebration of the 1929 International Exposition.
