Figueres will combine the 40th Mostra del Vi de l’Empordà, the Empordà wine fair, with the third Fòrum Gastronòmic Ciutat, or City Gastronomic Forum, on the Rambla from Friday 2 to Sunday 4 October. Visitors will be able to buy separate tickets for wine tastings and for food, while the programme is due to run into the evening, with music until 23:00.

The joint format will put wineries from DO Empordà, the regulated Empordà wine appellation, alongside chefs, producers and food professionals. For residents and visitors, it means the Rambla will host the fair’s wine stands, tasting sessions, food offers and forum activities in one location across all three days.

Wine fair moves from June to October

Incatis will manage the Mostra del Vi for the first time. The organisers said the 40th edition will begin a new stage intended to increase the visibility of Empordà wineries and bring their wines closer to the public.

The fair has moved from its previous late-June slot to the first weekend of October. Organisers said the change is intended to avoid heatwaves affecting recent editions and to prevent a clash with the grape harvest, making it easier for wineries to take part.

Talks paired with Empordà wines

The forum’s food stage will again host chefs, producers and other gastronomic professionals. This year, a substantial part of the food talks will be paired with wines from DO Empordà.

Jaume Subirós, chef and owner of the Motel Empordà in Figueres, will deliver the opening address for the wine fair. The programme will also include activities for families.

Organisers will add confirmed speakers, producers and activities to the programme over time. People wishing to join activities that require advance registration will be able to check availability and book through the Fòrum Gastronòmic Ciutat website.
