Figueres has launched the fifth Surrealist Taste Route, with the city centre event running from 4 to 14 June. The initiative brings together 26 hospitality businesses offering tapas and menus inspired by Salvador Dalí's universe.
The opening event took place on 3 June in Plaça Catalunya, with around 20 establishments offering samples of their dishes, paired with DO Empordà wines. The rumba group Sunmorenao Duo provided music during the launch.
Organised by Comerç Figueres Associació with Figueres City Council, the route links food, commerce and local activity. Twenty venues are offering a surrealist-inspired tapa and a glass of DO Empordà wine for €4, while six restaurants are serving special menus for €35.
Frederic Carbó, president of Comerç Figueres, said the route helps local businesses because participants move from one establishment to another and pass shop fronts along the way. The event is designed to support restaurants and bring more activity into the city centre. For more local coverage, see our news tag.
The dishes carry Dalí-inspired names such as Surrealist Eggs, New Clock, Dalínian Bomb, Gala's Desire and Shrimp-Telephone. The menu includes items such as potato parmentier with grilled octopus, ricotta gnocchi baskets, cuttlefish casserole with artichokes and meatballs, matured beef croquettes, white prawn tartare, pork cheek, foie gras, wakame seaweed and desserts including cocoa mousse with chocolate financiers.
Customers can vote for their favourite tapa or menu through the Rutappa mobile application. Prizes include a dinner for two, two tickets to the Dalí Theatre-Museum, gift vouchers for Comerç Figueres shops and bottles of Heus wine from La Vinyeta winery. The top three venues in both the tapa and menu categories will also receive awards.
The 20 tapa venues are Batuts, Càlid Cafè, Ca la Xeli, El Cafè del Casino, Pastisseria Tall Dolç, Carns Serraplà, Hostal Amiel, El Dynàmic, Pizzeria Augustea, Granada Vins, La Patagonia, Lizarran, Tony's Figueres, Txots, Moma 33, Motel Empordà Wine Bar, Nòmada, Boga Gastrobarna, Sea & Chips and Sentits. The six restaurants taking part with menus are Foc, Can Jeroni, Duran, El Pelegrí, Mesón Asador and Maia. Full details are available in the printed brochure, on the Surrealist Taste Route website and through the Rutappa app, which includes a route map on Google Maps.
