Figueres, in the Alt Empordà area of Girona, is hosting a new series of free cooking demonstrations, tastings and workshops at the city’s fruit and vegetable market. Figueres City Council says the programme, which runs on Saturdays from 30 May to November 2026, is intended to boost market activity.
The events are split into two main strands. The School of New Opportunities and the Figueres Hospitality School will lead tastings of dishes including cherry gazpacho, esqueixada de bacallà (shredded salt cod salad), and sweet botifarra sausage with Empordà apple. These sessions will take place in Plaça Catalunya and Plaça del Gra.
La Cuina del Vent, or The Kitchen of the Wind, will run workshops at the Balcó del Mercat, on the mezzanine of Plaça Catalunya. The sessions include guidance for parents on encouraging young children to eat fish and vegetables, plus workshops on cold starters and fresh pasta.
The first dates listed in the programme were 30 May, from 11am to 1.30pm, for a cherry gazpacho tasting in Plaça Catalunya, and 13 June, at the same time in Plaça del Gra, for an esqueixada de bacallà tasting. Both were led by the School of New Opportunities.
Later sessions include a 20 June workshop at the Balcó del Mercat with Restaurant Falconera from Roses, followed by a 27 June workshop at the same venue with Restaurant El Portal de Bàscara. The autumn schedule includes a 26 September tasting of sweet botifarra sausage with Empordà apple, a 10 October fresh pasta workshop, and a 7 November session for parents on fish and vegetables. Some workshops require pre-registration.
