A person died in Terrassa, Barcelona, on Monday evening after being hit by an R4 Rodalies train. The incident occurred at 20:25 at an unauthorised crossing point just outside Terrassa Estació del Nord station, according to Catalonia's Civil Protection.
The accident led to the immediate suspension of train services on the R4 line between Sabadell Sud and Terrassa stations. Adif, the railway infrastructure manager, quickly organised an alternative road transport service for affected passengers.
Emergency Response and Service Impact
Civil Protection initially activated the pre-alert phase of the railway emergency plan, FERROCAT, following the incident. This pre-alert was later deactivated once the alternative road transport was fully operational, officials said. The disruption affected commuters travelling on the busy R4 line, which connects Sant Vicenç de Calders with Manresa, passing through Barcelona.
Authorities are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident at the unauthorised crossing point. Rail safety at such locations remains a concern for transport operators and local residents.
