Girona is at the centre of ERC’s latest local election move, after party secretary general Elisenda Alamany publicly backed Marc Puigtió for the city’s municipal elections in May 2027.

Alamany and Puigtió were recently seen together in a video shared on social media, walking through Girona’s Mercat del Lleó and several city streets. The appearance followed Alamany’s statement a year ago on social media, when she said that “ERC, as always, will present itself with its own brand in the country’s main cities.”

This support points to ERC’s wider strategy in Catalonia’s larger urban areas, where the party wants to stand under its own name rather than in coalition. Girona is one of the cities where that approach will be tested most clearly.

The endorsement gives Puigtió the backing of the party’s leadership as the campaign period moves closer. It also confirms that ERC intends to keep pressing its own brand in key Catalan cities.
