A 16-year-old boy died after being struck by a car shortly after 00.05 on Saturday, 29 August, on Carrer 11 in the Lluminetes neighbourhood of Castelldefels. The driver left the scene and was later arrested at his home, while police investigate a fatal collision affecting residents and road users in the Baix Llobregat coastal town.

According to Castelldefels Local Police, the car continued along the street after hitting the teenager before crashing into a tree and a lighting column at the roundabout linking Passeig de la Marina and Carrer 11.

Two other people were injured in the subsequent collision and received medical attention. They were taken to hospital after being stabilised, according to reports from the scene.

Emergency crews were unable to save the teenager

Castelldefels Local Police, the Mossos d'Esquadra, Catalonia's regional police, and ambulances from the Sistema d'Emergències Mèdiques, the Catalan medical emergency service, attended the incident.

Paramedics attempted to resuscitate the boy, who had sustained very serious injuries, but he died at the scene.

Local Police locate driver at home

Police said the driver had left the area by the time emergency services arrived, leaving the heavily damaged vehicle behind. Castelldefels Local Police later located and arrested the person they identify as the driver at his home.

Investigators are reconstructing the events on Carrer 11 and will determine the circumstances of the collision and any resulting liability.
