Italian triathlete Elisabetta Curridori and Britain's Will Draper emerged as winners of the middle-distance race at the Challenge Salou – Costa Daurada, held on Sunday 10 May in Salou. The event saw strong performances from both athletes in the popular coastal town.
Curridori and Draper competed in the challenging triathlon, which includes swimming, cycling, and running segments. The race attracts both professional and amateur triathletes to the Costa Daurada region each year.
Draper, a local competitor, attributed his success to the support from spectators. "I think it was thanks to the public and all the encouragement I received," he told reporters. "Hearing people shouting my name really cheered me on; running at home benefited me."
Local Support Fuels Victory
The British triathlete's comments highlight the impact of local enthusiasm on athlete performance. Events like Challenge Salou not only draw international talent but also engage the community, creating an energetic atmosphere for participants.
Organisers of the Challenge Salou – Costa Daurada programme aim to continue building on this success, planning future editions that will bring more athletes and spectators to Salou.
