Guissona, in the Segarra area of Lleida, is the focus of a copper theft case that led to two arrests after a week of surveillance at BonÀrea facilities.
Two men, aged 23 and 41, were detained after copper cabling was stolen from an electric vehicle charging installation. The arrests followed joint monitoring by Guissona Municipal Guard, Mossos d'Esquadra and company security staff, according to Segre.
Mossos d'Esquadra said the stolen wiring was taken between 17 and 24 May. The suspects are said to be part of a criminal network specialising in copper thefts, with previous activity in Murcia and Valencia.
Three men reportedly entered an area where construction work had exposed electrical cabling for new electric vehicle chargers. A BonÀrea security guard alerted local police after the first theft, which led to the surveillance operation.
Days later, the Guardia Civil contacted local authorities for information about the group, saying it had intelligence that the offenders had moved to the Segarra area. Police then increased checks around the site, with Mossos officers, municipal guards and private security reviewing CCTV footage and monitoring the area.
At midnight on the latest night of surveillance, a municipal guard alerted Mossos after spotting a vehicle linked to the thefts. Officers stopped the vehicle on the A-2 motorway and arrested the two men.
