Catalonia to see scattered showers and temperatures near 30°C

Catalonia is set for a day of mixed weather on Sunday, 26 April 2026, with widespread sunshine punctuated by afternoon showers and temperatures approaching 30°C, according to the Catalan Meteorological Service (SMC). The weather pattern, including southerly winds, is expected to remain largely consistent with previous days, though temperatures will climb further.

Early on Sunday, some residual clouds are forecast along the southern coastal and pre-coastal areas, with low clouds also appearing in parts of the northern coast, between the northern Central Coast and the southern Costa Brava. These are expected to dissipate quickly.

Intense Localised Showers Expected

From midday onwards, cloud formations will develop across the northern third of Catalonia and the pre-coastal regions. These clouds are likely to bring showers and some thunderstorms, which could be locally intense and include the possibility of hail. The SMC has activated a warning for precipitation intensity.

These showers are predicted to be more intense than those on Saturday and will affect a wider range of counties, extending beyond just the Pyrenees and Pre-Pyrenees. Areas such as the northern Central Catalonia, northern Ponent, and the interior of the north-east are also expected to see rain.

Specifically, light rain is possible in Noguera, the southern Solsonès and Berguedà, northern Bages, Osona, and around Montseny. This broader distribution marks a slight shift in the weather pattern.

Temperatures Nearing 30°C

Temperatures were already higher at the start of Sunday, generally 2 to 3 degrees warmer than Saturday, with only isolated drops in some Pyrenean locations. Maximum temperatures are set to be slightly higher across most of the region.

However, some interior areas of the north-east quadrant may experience a temporary dip in maximum temperatures due to the afternoon showers. With this small increase, the highest values are expected to reach around 29°C in Ponent, while Terres de l'Ebre, parts of Central Catalonia, and the interior of Empordà will see temperatures around 27°C.

Outlook for Monday

The weather on Monday is forecast to be similar, with afternoon showers remaining a key feature. These showers will continue to affect many interior counties in the northern third of Catalonia. Temperatures are not expected to decrease, maintaining the warmer trend.
