Catalonia will implement random checks with electronic device detectors during this June's university entrance exams, known as 'selectivitat'. This measure follows an increase in students using artificial intelligence to cheat, according to El País newspaper.

Sources from the Department of Research and Universities told ACN that these detectors will ensure the "correct development of the tests". The department described this as a pilot programme to prevent fraudulent use of devices during exams. Mobile phones, smartwatches, and all other electronic devices must be switched off and stored in bags or backpacks during the examination.

Combating Hidden Cheating Devices

The detectors are designed to identify students using hidden devices, such as earpieces, which are not visible but can be used to receive dictated answers from outside the classroom via a mobile phone acting as an antenna, El País reported.

Beyond Catalonia, the same frequency detectors will also be used in university entrance exams this June in Aragon, Murcia, and Galicia.
