The Catalan government has completed the purchase of 1,094 homes from InmoCaixa, a subsidiary of CriteriaCaixa, for nearly €90 million. The deal was ratified by the executive council, led by Salvador Illa, through the Catalan Land Institute, Incasòl, on 26 May.

More than 500 of the homes are in Greater Barcelona, making the area the main focus of the acquisition. The operation is intended to expand the public housing stock across Catalonia.

According to the government statement, the agreement also includes 1,014 parking spaces and 239 storage rooms owned by InmoCaixa. The total cost of the operation is €89,923,840.

The homes are spread across 14 municipalities in Catalonia. In Greater Barcelona, Barcelona city accounts for 186 flats, followed by Sant Just Desvern with 120, L'Hospitalet de Llobregat with 112, and Cornellà de Llobregat with 84.

Other purchases in the metropolitan area include 78 homes in Terrassa, 68 in Mataró, and nine in Sabadell. Outside the immediate Barcelona area, Sitges has 192 acquired properties and Sentmenat has 111.
