Pirates del Cap de Creus, a maritime tourism project in Llançà and Roses, has received a €1,000 award through the 2026 Terra d’Oportunitats programme, run by CaixaBank and the Costa Brava Fisheries Local Action Group (GALP Costa Brava).

The funding gives the project direct financial support, training and visibility. For residents and businesses linked to the fishing and visitor economy in Llançà and Roses, the selection supports an initiative designed to work with the fishing sector while promoting lower-impact sea tourism.

GALP Costa Brava is a local partnership that supports maritime and fishing-sector development along the Girona coast. The Terra d’Oportunitats programme aims to encourage entrepreneurship and employment, diversify the economy of fishing areas, and protect the coast's cultural and natural heritage.

Low-consumption boats and theatrical routes

Pirates del Cap de Creus offers cultural routes with theatrical elements, using low-consumption vessels to provide smaller-scale experiences away from mass tourism. The project has also invested in more efficient electric systems, according to information on the selected initiatives.

The programme describes the approach as a form of blue tourism that combines maritime heritage, historical interpretation and sustainability, while seeking to protect biodiversity in the Cap de Creus natural park.

Four Costa Brava initiatives selected

Each of the four projects selected in the 2026 edition will receive €1,000. The other recognised initiatives are:

  • Clemente Oliveira Gonzalez, which is investing in machinery and on-board handling systems for small-scale fishing in the natural park.
  • Barca Núria, which offers guided trips led by a biologist alongside the perspective of a fisher, with the aim of encouraging respect for the marine environment.
  • Centre d'Immersió Port de la Selva, which has renewed equipment to improve air quality, safety and efficiency.

The recognition event is scheduled for 17 September at Espai Medes in l'Estartit, alongside the 10th anniversary of GALP Costa Brava.
