Cambrils, in Catalonia, has a new football milestone to celebrate after Cambrils Unió secured promotion to Primera Catalana with a 4-0 extra-time win over La Canonja at the municipal stadium.

The tie had been finely balanced after La Canonja took a 1-0 lead from the first leg. In the return match, Jordi Estivill levelled the score in the first half, and the game finished 1-1 after 90 minutes, sending the play-off into extra time.

Marc Benito, who came on as a substitute in the second half, scored the first goal in extra time. Pol Benito then added two more, taking the score to 4-0 and confirming promotion for the Cambrils side.

The Benito family had a major influence on the result. Marc and Pol were both decisive on the pitch, Uri Benito captained the team from midfield, and Jesús Benito coached the side. The article also notes that Uri has experience with provincial teams and Villarreal’s academy, while Pol previously played for Reus in Tercera División.

The play-off also included a sibling link on the other side, with Nico playing for La Canonja and Cholo for Cambrils Unió. Supporters turned out in large numbers for both legs, and officials reported a positive atmosphere with no incidents. The clubs also agreed ticket prices to help keep the tie well managed.

The promotion is a first major success for president Álex Ruiz, who took office a year ago. He is supported by a board that includes his sons Sergio and Álex, along with general director David Sánchez Parrilla. Cambrils Unió now faces the challenge of finding new financial resources to build a squad ready for Primera Catalana.
