Àlex Camón, the 27-year-old goalkeeper for Cambrils Club Hoquei, died in a traffic accident on the N-240 near Montblanc on Friday night, 8 May. Another driver, a 50-year-old man from El Pont d'Armentera, also died in the collision.

The club confirmed the death of the young player, a resident of L'Espluga de Francolí, in a social media statement. They announced the postponement of all matches scheduled for the weekend. "The club will not be the same without you. The sky cries and shines in equal measure because you were light," the club wrote in an emotional farewell message.

Camón was also a volunteer with the Associació de Defensa Forestal de L'Espluga de Francolí, a forest defence association. This organisation also posted a message on social media, expressing sadness and offering support to his family during their loss.

The Hoquei Club Espluga, where Camón played for several seasons before joining Cambrils, also paid tribute to the goalkeeper and extended its condolences to his family and friends.

Details of the Collision

The fatal accident occurred at approximately 22:04 on Friday night at kilometre 36.4 of the N-240, near the junction with the C-14 towards Tàrrega. According to the Servei Català de Trànsit (SCT), two cars collided head-on for reasons still under investigation.

Both drivers, who were the sole occupants of their vehicles, died as a result of the impact. The N-240 was fully closed until 1:15am, with diversions in place. On Saturday morning, the road remained partially restricted to allow for police investigation work.

These two deaths bring the total number of fatalities on Catalan roads this year to 38. Thirteen of these have occurred on roads within the Tarragona province, according to the SCT.
