Blanes, on the Costa Brava in Girona province, has launched ten free guided cultural routes to promote its historical, cultural and literary heritage. The programme will run until November 2026, according to the Blanes Town Council.
The council says the initiative is designed to present Blanes as more than a sun and beach destination. The routes were created by experts and cover different parts of the town’s history and culture, from its medieval origins to its links with literature and the arts.
Among the itineraries is Medieval and Stately Blanes, which includes landmarks such as Sant Joan Castle and Santa Maria Church. Another route, Literary Blanes, focuses on places connected with writers and poets who lived in or visited the town, including the Marimurtra botanical garden, which inspired several authors.
Blanes mayor Àngels Canosa said the aim is to position Blanes as a cultural reference point on the Costa Brava and to give visitors a fuller picture of the municipality’s historical and literary heritage. The council wants the routes to help broaden the town’s visitor profile.
The guided routes are free, but advance registration is required. Bookings can be made through the Blanes Town Council website or at the Tourist Office, and places on each tour are limited. For more local coverage, see our news page.
