Tarragona is set to host a new green hydrogen production plant, with backing from Bill Gates and ArcelorMittal. The project is a collaboration between international group H2PRO and local firm Sun Systems Group, based in Via Augusta.

According to Diari de Tarragona, the plant is expected to play a significant role in Catalonia’s energy transition. Green hydrogen is produced using renewable electricity to split water, and is seen as a cleaner fuel option for industry.

The involvement of Bill Gates, co-founder of Microsoft, and ArcelorMittal, the world’s largest steel producer, points to strong interest in the project. It also adds to Tarragona’s growing profile in advanced energy technologies.

Further details on the plant’s capacity, construction timeline and expected job creation have not yet been made public. Those figures will be key to understanding the project’s full impact in Catalonia.
