Girona, Catalonia, Bàsquet Girona have closed their ACB season with mixed feelings, after setting a club record of 14 wins but missing out on the Copa del Rey and the play-offs.

The Girona side finished 12th in the league after beating Joventut 82-77 at Fontajau last Friday. It was a result that confirmed a solid end to the campaign, even if it did not change the club’s overall disappointment.

According to Diari de Girona, the squad felt that a run of poor results cost them a better finish. A team spokesperson said those results had conditioned the season, even though the team’s play suggested they could have aimed higher.

Coach Moncho Fernández led a side that improved its win total to a new club high in Spain’s top division. Even so, the players said the season leaves room for regret, because the team believed it had the level to compete for more.

Attention now turns to the close-season review, with the club expected to assess its squad and plan for the next campaign. For more Catalonia sports coverage, see our news tag.
