Barcelona City Council has launched the Compromís per la Trinitat Vella in the Sant Andreu district to coordinate housing rehabilitation and urban regeneration in the Trinitat Vella neighbourhood.
The new strategic forum will bring together municipal services, neighbourhood representatives and other local actors with responsibilities in urban planning, housing and territory. Its role is to set priorities, follow ongoing works and help shape the next steps for the area.
The council says the plan is focused on improving an ageing housing stock and supporting public rehabilitation policies. The regeneration process covers 75 properties, 432 homes and 29 commercial premises.
According to the council, the initiative is intended to improve safety, quality of life and residential dignity for residents. Sant Andreu district councillor Marta Villanueva said the launch shows the municipal government’s commitment to residents’ right to remain in Barcelona and to better housing and public space quality.
Villanueva also said Trinitat Vella’s housing stock is old and has suffered decades of neglect, making public rehabilitation policies a priority. She said the commitment is a step forward to guarantee safety, quality of life and dignity for residents, and to restore neighbourhood pride.
The forum will meet three times a year and can include up to four neighbourhood representatives, two from the Trinitat Vella Residents’ Association and two from the Trinitat Vella Neighbourhood Forum Association. City Council representation will include the Sant Andreu district councillor, members from the municipal groups in the Plenary Council, the district’s technical advisory team and technicians from several district departments.
It will also include representatives from Urban Planning, the Municipal Housing Institute of Barcelona, the Barcelona Housing Consortium, Social Services and the Neighbourhood Plan. A technical office will support the forum by monitoring rehabilitation actions, resolving operational issues and providing technical criteria for decisions.
