Barcelona will close major streets in Gràcia and Sants this weekend, 23 and 24 May, as part of its Obrim Carrers programme. From 10am to 9pm on both days, traffic will be restricted on the Creu Coberta-Sants axis and on Gran de Gràcia, with priority given to pedestrians.

The measure is part of the city’s wider push to reduce private car use and give more space to walking. The current scheme follows earlier pedestrianisation work in Barcelona, including traffic calming and cuts to on-street parking.

Bus changes in Gràcia

Transports Metropolitans de Barcelona, TMB, says routes V17, 22, 24 and 114 will be diverted in Gran de Gràcia. Towards the mountain, from Plaça del Cinc d'Oros, the buses will go via Avinguda Diagonal, Via Augusta, Avinguda de la Riera de Cassoles and on to Plaça Lesseps.

Line 114 is also affected by the Comerç al carrer event, so it will not run along Gran de Gràcia, Ros de Olano, Via Augusta and Travessera de Gràcia. TMB recommends using Diagonal, Fontana or Lesseps metro stations.

Bus changes in Sants

On the Creu Coberta-Carrer de Sants axis, bus lines D20 and V5 will also change route. The D20, towards Plaça Espanya, will divert via Avinguda de Madrid, Carrers de Berlín, Numància and Tarragona. In the opposite direction, it will go via Tarragona, Plaça dels Països Catalans, Passeig de Sant Antoni, Carrer de Comtes de Bell-Lloc and Avinguda de Madrid.

Line V5, towards Mare de Déu de Port, will divert via Passeig de Sant Antoni and Carrers de Tarragona and Consell de Cent. TMB advises passengers to use other bus lines where possible, or the metro at Collblanc, Badal, Plaça de Sants, Hostafrancs or Espanya.

Who can still use the streets

General traffic will be restricted during Obrim Carrers. Only municipal service and emergency vehicles will be allowed, along with loading and unloading vehicles, residents accessing private car parks, users of rotation parking facilities, taxis in emergencies and vehicles for people with reduced mobility.

Bicycles and scooters may use the streets, but riders must give priority to pedestrians and keep to a maximum speed of 10 kilometres per hour. TMB says passengers should check its website for the latest route and stop changes.
