In Sant Cugat del Vallès, the Catalan government has halted filming of Russell Crowe’s The Last Druid after finding non-compliance with the biosecurity measures required to authorise activity at the Can Sant Joan site, between Sant Cugat and Rubí.
Sources from the Ministry of Agriculture confirmed the decision. The government says it will send a legal demand to the production company behind the film.
The shoot was planned at the former Sant Joan golf course. The land is owned by the Catalan Land Institute, Incasòl, which gave temporary approval in February for the space to be used for an audiovisual production.
The ministry did not detail the specific breaches. The halt means the production must now address the issues raised before filming can resume, if the authorities are satisfied with the response.
Biosecurity rules are used to reduce risks in areas near agricultural land or natural habitats. In this case, the government’s action shows that those requirements apply even to high-profile productions.
