Barcelona's Metro network registered 2,002,000 passenger validations on Sant Jordi Day, 23 April, marking an "absolute record" for daily ridership on the underground system, according to Transports Metropolitans de Barcelona (TMB).

This figure represents a 7% increase compared to Sant Jordi Day in 2025, which previously held the record for the most journeys. TMB also reported that the combined Metro and bus network saw its highest-ever daily validations, reaching 2.7 million journeys.

Laia Bonet, president of TMB, called this an historic achievement. She stated it would not have been possible without the dedication of TMB staff, adding that "Barcelona is firmly committed to public transport as a mobility axis."

FGC also reports increased demand

Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat (FGC) also experienced a rise in demand, recording 470,000 journeys on its metropolitan lines. This was a 4.7% increase from 2025.

The Barcelona-Vallès line saw 349,649 journeys, a 3.4% rise from the previous year. The Llobregat-Anoia line recorded 120,306 journeys, an 8.7% increase, making it the most significant growth across FGC lines.

When comparing Sant Jordi demand to a typical working Thursday, such as 16 April, FGC's network showed an even greater surge, with journeys increasing by 17.8%.
