Barcelona has recorded its first tropical nights of 2026, with overnight temperatures in parts of the city staying above 20C on Saturday, 23 May. The earliest readings came from Les Corts and Sants, making this the first time this year that Barcelona has met the tropical-night threshold.
The meteorological stations at Can Bruixa in Les Corts and Plaça de Sants were the first to register the conditions. According to data from the Meteoclimatic portal, Les Corts-Can Bruixa recorded a provisional minimum of 20.2C, while Plaça de Sants recorded 20.1C.
Other parts of Barcelona also saw very mild overnight temperatures, with several locations coming close to the 20C mark that defines a tropical night. If temperatures at Les Corts-Can Bruixa remain above 20C until 2am on Sunday, this will be the earliest tropical minimum of the year so far, although it would still fall short of the record set on 7 May 2020.
The Fabra Observatory also came close, with a provisional minimum of 19.9C on Saturday. The observatory’s earliest tropical night on record is 15 May 1945, and its first tropical night of the year usually arrives in mid-June. In the 21st century, though, many years have seen that point reached in the second half of May.
