Barcelona and L'Hospitalet de Llobregat have held the first technical meeting of their new joint commission at Barcelona City Council, marking the start of a formal framework to coordinate work between the two municipalities.

The meeting was led by Laia Claverol, Barcelona's municipal manager, and Antoni Rivera, L'Hospitalet de Llobregat's municipal manager. It brought together managerial and technical representatives from both councils, following the collaboration protocol signed to create the commission.

The protocol, signed on 13 March, also provides for specific working groups. These are intended to turn political agreements into practical action, strengthen cooperation between municipal teams, and support a consistent, balanced and shared development of the area.

The main aim is to increase cooperation on major urban transformation and planning projects, while also improving the coordination of services. Barcelona and L'Hospitalet de Llobregat form one of the main urban, social and economic centres in the metropolitan area and across Catalonia.

The two cities share close geographical links, a continuous urban area and strong ties in social, cultural and productive sectors. Officials say the next step will be to set up the working groups, which are expected to help translate the wider agreements into detailed plans and actions.
