Barcelona is preparing for a week of intense heat, with temperatures set to remain high across the city and surrounding areas. Monday, 15 June, will see strong heat, accompanied by layers of high and mid-level clouds, according to Betevé's weather forecast.
The early hours of Monday will bring tropical conditions, with minimum temperatures between 22 and 23 degrees Celsius in the city centre. By 9am, some thin clouds are expected, with temperatures peaking before midday. The afternoon will feel like July, and by 6pm, high, thin clouds will increase. The evening, around 9pm, will have a full summer feel.
Tropical Nights and Rising Temperatures
Tropical nights are forecast across the region, with minimum temperatures exceeding 20 degrees Celsius, even in pre-coastal areas. The week will start with significant heat, though temperatures on Monday will be similar to those recorded on Sunday.
The morning will see a hazy sky with some thin clouds. Later in the afternoon, cloud cover will increase as remnants of storms from inland and northern Catalonia approach. These storms, however, are expected to stay away from Barcelona's coast and pre-coastal areas. They will primarily affect the Pre-Pyrenees, the central plateau, and western parts of Catalonia, where they could bring heavy rainfall.
Light winds and calm seas are also predicted for Monday. The sun will become more prominent from Tuesday onwards, dominating the weather for the rest of the week. Between Wednesday and Thursday, there is a possibility of some high fog banks or low cloud layers near the coast. The feeling of mugginess is expected to increase slightly by mid-week.
Sustained Summer Conditions Expected
This period marks the start of a fully 'canicular' heatwave, a term referring to the hottest part of summer. The sustained high temperatures and tropical nights mean residents should take precautions against the heat. Officials advise staying hydrated and avoiding prolonged exposure to the sun during peak hours.
Looking ahead, the forecast suggests a stable pattern of warm weather will continue. While minor cloud variations are possible, the overall trend points to a prolonged spell of summer heat across Barcelona and much of Catalonia.
