Barcelona has closed volunteer registration for the Tour de France Grand Départ, after receiving more than 4,000 applications. The Catalan capital will host the start of the race.
Barcelona City Council confirmed the level of interest from residents who want to take part in the event. The volunteers will help with tasks needed to keep the start of the race running smoothly.
Those tasks include crowd control, information points and logistical support. The council will now process the applications and move on to the selection and training stages for the volunteers chosen.
The Grand Départ is the official start of the Tour de France, one of the world’s best-known cycling races. Barcelona’s role in hosting it puts the city in the international spotlight and adds to its sporting calendar.
Further details on volunteer roles and schedules are expected in the coming months as preparations continue. For more local coverage, see our news page and our Barcelona and Catalonia news updates.
