Barcelona police have arrested eight repeat offenders in a crackdown on violent chain and bracelet thefts across the city. The Mossos d'Esquadra carried out Operation Kanpai Càtena on Thursday, 21 May, between 2pm and 11pm, in Ciutat Vella, Eixample and Sant Martí.

According to Mossos sources, the eight detained individuals had a combined 141 previous police records. The operation targeted robberies carried out with violence and intimidation, including snatching chains, bracelets and other accessories.

Officers also identified 52 other people during the same operation. Those individuals had a total of 661 prior police records, according to the force.
