Barcelona's Mayor, Jaume Collboni, and the Catalan Government's Minister for Language Policy, F. Xavier Vila, will announce a new agreement on Monday, 11 May, to increase annual investment in Catalan language courses in Barcelona.

The agreement will lead to a rise in the number of places available for courses taught by the Consortium for Linguistic Normalisation (CPNL) across the city. This move is part of a broader effort to promote and normalise the use of Catalan among residents.

Expanding Access to Catalan Learning

The announcement will take place at 12:00 (noon) in the Saló Ciutat at Barcelona City Council. Marta Salicrú, the Commissioner for the Social Use of Catalan, will also attend the event, according to officials.

The CPNL offers a range of Catalan language courses for different levels, from beginners to advanced speakers. Increasing the number of places will help meet the growing demand for learning Catalan, particularly among new arrivals and those wishing to improve their proficiency for daily life and work in Catalonia.

This initiative follows ongoing discussions between the city council and the Catalan government regarding language policy and cultural promotion. The increased investment reflects a shared commitment to supporting the Catalan language.
