Barcelona’s beaches were cleaned on 8 June, World Oceans Day, in a campaign organised by the Barcelona City Council, with volunteers and local residents taking part.

The initiative focused on collecting waste from the city’s coastline and raising awareness of the need to protect marine ecosystems. It also aimed to show the impact that pollution can have on the sea and on coastal areas.

The city council said the clean-up formed part of a wider effort to promote environmental responsibility in Barcelona. Similar actions are organised regularly to help keep the city’s beaches and nearby waters clean.

Officials said these activities also serve as a reminder about responsible waste disposal. The council plans to continue supporting environmental programmes that include public participation and education on sustainable habits.
