Barcelona Mayor Jaume Collboni inaugurated the 'Barcelona 2035. A city to live in' exhibition on 7 May 2026. The display, held at the Casa de l'Arquitectura, invites visitors to explore significant transformation projects planned for Barcelona and its metropolitan area.

The exhibition aims to inform citizens and provide a view of the city's present and immediate future. Organised by Barcelona City Council as part of the World Capital of Architecture programme, the show is designed to be dynamic, updating with new projects and perspectives as Barcelona develops.

During the opening, Mayor Collboni stated that the exhibition "proposes a reflection on what the city will be like in a decade, synthesising all the transformations already underway into a single view." He added that Barcelona is already undergoing "a large-scale transformation that should turn the Barcelona of 2035 into a city to live in."

Exploring Barcelona's Future

'Barcelona 2035. A city to live in' details major city projects, presented on a large central table. Maps, three models of the Sagrera, Ciutadella Park, and Fira de Barcelona at Montjuïc projects, alongside images of ongoing transformations, help visitors understand the impact these developments will have on people's lives.

The exhibition is structured as a journey, allowing visitors to see how each intervention fits into a broader city plan and how its effects will be felt in specific neighbourhoods and daily life. It includes perspectives on housing, mobility, employment, neighbourhood identity, and the sense of belonging for residents.

Key Transformation Areas

The exhibition covers major areas of city transformation. These include the new Marina del Prat Vermell neighbourhood, Montjuïc becoming a large urban and metropolitan park with a renovated Fira and new public housing, and the completion of the seafront, which will add new green spaces and facilities.

Other projects highlighted are the Ciutadella del Coneixement (Citadel of Knowledge) as a European hub for knowledge, dissemination, research, and innovation. The Tres Xemeneies (Three Chimneys) in Sant Adrià de Besòs is set to become a new reference point for the audiovisual sector. The transformation of the areas around the future Sagrera station and the Vall Hebron Campus, along with its surrounding neighbourhoods, are also featured.

The Porta Diagonal area, with the future Campus Clínic and the Bioclúster de l'Hospitalet, will create new biomedical and scientific campuses integrated into the city. Finally, 22@Nord aims to strengthen the productive and innovation district with more housing, employment, and improved urban quality. These projects collectively outline the city's vision for the next decade.
