Balaguer will host the Algoritmo electronic music festival on 13 June at the esplanade of the Sant Crist Basilica, a site in the city’s heritage area. The Urgell Bishopric, which owns the property, has authorised the event, according to municipal sources.
The festival is scheduled to run from 5pm until midnight. It is a different setting from earlier Algoritmo events held in Lleida, at La Seu Vella and Els Camps Elisis, and in La Noguera, at Castell del Remei.
The basilica complex is home to the Clarissian nuns, the only residents of the sanctuary. Sister Victoria Triviño, abbess of the Clarissians, said yesterday that she was unaware of the mid-June event and the style of music planned.
The organisers say the aim is to combine electronic music with architectural heritage, turning the Balaguer site into a sound and visual setting. The line-up will include Galician producer Fer BR, DJ Sandvitx and srxmas.
