Balaguer, in the Noguera region, filled its streets with solidarity on Sunday during the tenth Fira dels Somnis, or 'Fair of Dreams'. The event aimed to "turn the dreams of curing childhood cancer into a reality," according to organisers. More than one hundred activities were spread across Avinguda dels Països Catalans and part of Carrer de Pere III.
The day started at 10am with a 3km and 5km charity walk and run. At 11am, Plaça del Morter hosted the reading of the fair's manifesto, which was one of the day's most emotional moments. Throughout the morning, families enjoyed various cultural, recreational, and sports activities. These included football and tennis games, circus acts, children's inflatables, and dance and music shows from local groups.
New Attractions and Community Involvement
This year, the fair introduced a new vermouth area, allowing residents to enjoy the good weather and live music. Motor vehicles also played a significant role, drawing many onlookers. An exhibition of classic cars, tractors, quads, and motorbikes, alongside a gathering of Ford Mustang cars, occupied a large section of Avinguda dels Països Catalans. Additionally, the fair featured informational stands from the Mossos d'Esquadra, Bombers, and Agents Rurals.
Organisers expressed their gratitude for the involvement of the city, various entities, associations, and collaborating businesses. Joan Arjona, from the organising committee, stated at midday that the funds collected had already surpassed the previous year's total. The fair raised over €65,000, which will go towards research projects at Vall d'Hebron Hospital in Barcelona.
