Baix Ebre, in the Terres de l'Ebre area of Catalonia, has approved an extra €419,000 for its 2026 Social Services Programme Contract with the Generalitat de Catalunya.
The council said the funding will help reinforce social support across the comarca, with a focus on residents in smaller municipalities where local services can be harder to maintain.
A council representative said the increase allows the work to move forward, but added that the funding effort needs to continue and grow in the coming years.
The council also said comarcal councils play a key role in making sure quality services reach the whole territory, especially the smallest municipalities, and that enough resources are needed to respond to residents' needs.
The new funds will now be folded into the council's 2026 programmes, with an emphasis on long-term sustainability. For more local coverage, see our news page.
