In the Val d'Aran, eight second-year baccalaureate students from the Institut d’Aran will be recognised for research projects written in Aranese. The awards are organised by the Conselh Generau d’Aran and are now in their fifth edition.
The initiative aims to promote the use and study of Aranese among young people. According to officials, the recognised projects cover a range of topics, including health and the Aranese language itself.
Aranese is a co-official language in Catalonia, and the awards form part of wider efforts by the Conselh Generau d’Aran to support its preservation and use. The governing body of the Val d'Aran has backed similar initiatives to keep the language present in education and daily life.
Previous editions have seen students work on topics linked to Aranese culture, history and society. The programme is intended to encourage academic work in the language and to help maintain it as a living language in the region.
