FIGUERES, Catalonia, New data presented in Figueres shows that Alt Empordà’s average salary and GDP per capita are below the Girona province average.
At a Fòrum Imagina event on 20 May, Dr Anna Garriga from the University of Girona set out the figures. She said Catalonia’s average salary is €31,590, while the Girona province average is €26,727. Figueres records an even lower average of €25,397.
The figures point to a clear gap within the area, with Figueres below the provincial average and both below the Catalan figure. For readers following local economic coverage, see our news page for more reporting.
Dr Garriga also highlighted differences in GDP per capita across nearby comarcas. Garrotxa stands at €33,972, while Pla de l'Estany is at €32,214.
By comparison, Alt Empordà’s GDP per capita is €29,528, placing it below those neighbouring areas. The data adds to the picture of uneven economic performance across Girona province and wider Catalonia.
