A body found last Sunday in a ravine in Àger, in the Lleida region, is believed to be Enric Plaza, the former mayor of Durro. Plaza, 53, had been missing since late April, according to sources.
The body was found in an advanced state of decomposition. The crashed vehicle, along with documentation and personal belongings found at the scene, belonged to Plaza. The Mossos d'Esquadra had an active missing person report for him, and sources indicated the disappearance was voluntary.
Plaza served as mayor of the Durro decentralised municipal entity, in La Vall de Boí, from 2019 to 2025. The recovery took place in a difficult-to-access area and involved the Mossos d'Esquadra, who are leading the investigation, and the Generalitat Firefighters. The remains were taken to the Institute of Legal Medicine in Lleida for identification and an autopsy.

This case comes after another recent death in the region. Two weeks earlier, firefighters found the body of an 80-year-old man from Pinós, in Solsonès, inside a well in Cardona, Bages, about 30 metres from his vehicle. He lived in a farmhouse in Ardèvol, a village in Pinós.
The Mossos d'Esquadra recorded 291 missing person reports in the Lleida region last year, the highest figure in the past decade. That was a 29.9% rise from the 224 reports received in 2024. Police said 266 reports were filed in Ponent and 25 in Alt Pirineu and Aran, and that 98% of cases are resolved, with half closed within the first three days.
