The A-2 motorway in Òdena, Central Catalonia, was closed towards Barcelona on Monday morning after a refrigerated lorry overturned. Eight fire crews are working to free the driver from the vehicle.

The Catalan Traffic Service (SCT) initially reported that the road was closed in both directions. However, it later confirmed the closure was only for traffic heading towards Barcelona. Diversions are in place via exit 549, causing tailbacks that stretch back to Jorba.

Emergency services received the alert at 7.16am. Firefighters from the Generalitat are carrying out extrication work to rescue the lorry driver from the overturned vehicle. The incident has led to significant traffic disruption for commuters in the area.

Emergency Response and Traffic Impact

Eight teams from the Generalitat Fire Brigade were dispatched to the scene shortly after the accident was reported. Their primary focus is the safe removal of the driver, who was trapped inside the lorry. The overturned vehicle, a refrigerated lorry, is blocking the carriageway, necessitating the full closure of the Barcelona-bound lanes.

Motorists travelling on the A-2 are advised to use the designated diversions and expect delays. The SCT continues to monitor the situation and will provide updates as the recovery operation progresses and the road can be reopened. The cause of the accident has not yet been released.
